While your reptile needs to be warm to thermo-regulate, they don't want to get burnt either!
Ceramic heating equipment can get very hot, in fact they have to do so to bring the ambient air temperature high enough, however if your reptile comes into direct content, they can receive a nasty burn, so use a ProRep Heater Guard (rectangular) to protect them from getting 'too close to the fire'.
